Research

The emphasis of the Reza Abbaschian HPHT Lab research is the fundamental understanding of the role of interfaces on the processing and/or properties of material. Current projects involve investigations in solidification, high pressure-high temperature growth of diamond crystals, and electromagnetic levitation processing of alloys. Our recent projects include the study of phase formation and liquid phase separation that occurs in High Entropy Alloys (HEAs), graphene growth from molten metals, high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) growth of gemstone grade diamonds, and electromagnetic levitation processing of ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMAs).
